First ever JSL NFR Northeast Half Marathon on Feb 26

Maligaon, February 17 (MExN): The first ever JSL NFR Northeast Half Marathon is all set to rock the Darjeeling Hills on February 26. 

A press conference to officially announce the Half Marathon in Darjeeling was held at Darjeeling Railway Station on February 10. Divisional Railway Manager, Katihar SK Choudhary along with the Curator of the Half Marathon, Captain Rahul Bali briefed about the marathon, prize money and trophies to be awarded. The press conference also saw the presence of mountaineer Jamling Tenzing Norgay (son of the Tenzing Norgay), Gp Capt Jai Kishan, Principal Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Priyanshu, Director of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway & Celebrity Marathon Runner and founder of Vikrun Foundation, Vikram Rai among others. 

The Northeast Half Marathon is being conducted across North East India with the aim of empowering the sportspersons and development of sporting activity in Northeast India. The special thing about this Half Marathon in Darjeeling is that apart from empowering sportspersons, it would be a tribute to the first man to climb Mt Everest - the legendary Tenzing Norgay as the world celebrates 70 years of conquering the World’s Highest summit, Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated in a press release. 

Approximately 2000 runners from all parts of the world are expected to participate. Prizes worth Rs 6.5 lakhs would be given away to the winners in addition to the trophies, medals and merit certificates, it stated.

The registration will close on February 20.
