First Thenyizu Winter Football Cup underway

Thenyizu, December 7 (MExN): The first edition of the Winter Cup Football Tournament 2017 got underway at Thenyizu Village Local Ground, under Phek district with Colo Mero, Director of Life Sports as the chief guest.  

Mero in his speech lauded the Khretho Kohima boys for organizing such a tournament in a rural area and further encouraged the players to utilize their talents and not waste time if they wanted to make football a profession.  

Playing on a knockout basis, Kings Chozuba beat Khretho Kroko 2-0 in the first match, while Genius FC overpowered FC Chetheba 2-1. In the third match of the tournament, Kohima FC defeated Rising FC by 3-1. In the last match of the day, Hills FC narrowly beat Win FC 1-0.  

The quarterfinal matches of the tournament will begin on Friday.  

The three-day tournament is being organized by Khretho Boys Kohima with an aim to promote local players and provide them a platform to compete.  

A total of 13 teams are participating in the tournament where the champions will walk home with a cash of Rs 30,000 along with a trophy and the runners-up to receive Rs 15,000.
