GMS Kigwema holds sports meet

Students participating in the GMS Kigwema sports meet. 

 

DIMAPUR, MARCH 21 (MExN): The annual sports meet of Government Middle School, Kigwema, Kohima was held from March 18 to 21 under the theme ‘Stepping to Discipline.’ 


Khrielie Linyii Head Teacher formally declared the sports meet opened while senior School Management Committee member Khokhe exhorted the students on the essence of a disciplined student and fruits of a hard labour. 


A series of indigenous games namely ‘Naga wrestling’, ‘Khotho’, ‘Tholei’, and ‘Phieda’ were conducted to revive the ethnic aura of our traditional games along with the usual outdoor games. The SMC and PTA members came forward in conducting the sports meet smoothly. Students were categorized into Junior, Sub-junior, and Kindergarten. 


Khesieto Mera emerged as the wrestling champion while Yanwe and Seyiekono got first in boys and girls marathon race respectively. Yellow house won the junior boys’ final football match beating blue house on penalties after locked in 3-3 draw. The overall championship went to Yellow house and the sports meet concluded with words of encouragement and appreciation from senior teacher Neitholezo.
