SAI NERC Imphal to assess young sporting talent in Nagaland

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): The Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS), Nagaland, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India, North Eastern Regional Centre, Imphal (SAI NERC Imphal), will conduct the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) assessment tests in Kohima from April 26 onwards.

The assessment tests are scheduled from April 26-May 1 at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, and will begin each day at 9 am.

The sporting disciplines selected for Nagaland are archery, athletics, wrestling, boxing, and football.

The dates allotted for each discipline are as follows: Archery (April 26), Athletics (April 27), Wrestling (April 29), Boxing (April 30), and Football (May 1).

A press release from SAI NERC Imphal stated that through this initiative, SAI aims to establish benchmarks for performance evaluation and spearheading the drive towards excellence in Indian sports. 

This endeavour not only identifies promising talent but also sets new standards of achievement, it said. 

Laishram Samritya Singh, Assistant Director of Khelo India SAI NERC, said that KIRTI aims to conduct assessments across the country throughout the year to identify talent through notified Talent Assessment Centres. 

During the tests, participants will undergo a comprehensive battery of ten physical fitness tests designed to evaluate their physical attributes under the supervision of SAI coaches and experts, he added. 

The assessments will include event-specific trials such as the 100-meter sprint, 600-meter run, shot put, high jump, long jump, and throw ball.
