Governor instructs to identify skilled labour requirements

Kohima, January 22 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has directed the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to identify the skilled labour requirements in the State and train the youth accordingly so that they may be employable within the State itself. This was disclosed during a meeting with the department officials at Raj Bhavan Kohima on January 22.  

Expressing his concern for the youth of the State, the Governor said that unemployment was one major problem faced by the State. He called on the Department to focus on training the youth for the development of the State and also to make employment possible.  

The Governor also suggested the department to co-ordinate with Universities and Colleges in Nagaland to introduce skill development courses in the VI Semester which will prove beneficial for jobs, self-employment and empowerment of the students.  

Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship officials also briefed the Governor on the Skill Development activities undertaken by the department. They informed the Governor that the State has eight Industrial Training Institutes training 21 trades. The department also informed that various programmes and trainings such as Apprenticeship Training programme, Job Mela, Job & Career Fair, etc have been taken by to felicitate the youth.  

The officers also mentioned that 2016-17 was declared as the “Year of Construction Workers” by the Government of Nagaland and under this initiative; skills of 550 existing construction workers in the State were upgraded.
