Kohima April 4 (MExN): The Project Director of Lawyers Collective, Anand Grover is visiting Nagaland at the invitation of Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) to conduct workshops with NGOs, Lawyers, Positive Peoples Networks and key stakeholders from 6th April to 9th April, 2006. Anand Grover is a lawyer, a Masters Degree holder of Biochemistry and a Human Rights activist. He founded the Lawyer Collective HIV/AIDS Unit and is also a member of drafting team for the International Guidelines on Human Rights and HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS, and UN Human Rights Commission.
Presently, Lawyers Collective is involved in the drafting of the HIV/AIDS bill for India which has been discussed at all levels in the country including the Parliament. Anand is hopeful that the bill will be passed in Parliament this year.
Anand Grover is accompanied by Dr. Tokugha Yepthomi, a physician and researcher at YRG Care Center for AIDS Research and Education, Chennai. Together, they will conduct workshops and discussions with Doctors on April 6 evening and later with NGOs, Lawyers and Positive networks on the 7th April from 9.30 to 3.30 Pm, and with women groups on April 8 at 2 pm.
Dr. Toku will release a documentary “Living Reality – stories of hope and courage”, directed and researched by Morung Foundation for Indigenous Affairs and JustPeace and produced by NSACS on April 8 evening at Hotel Japfü. In all the presentations, the visiting experts will talk about ‘Ensuring access to treatment, latest HIV/AIDS treatment modules/methods, Rights based approach in HIV/AIDS programs, Law and human rights in the context of HIV/AIDS and dealing with issues related to Blood, Quacks, vulnerable groups and harm reduction. All the stakeholders mentioned above are invited to participate at the deliberations.
