KVK Kiphire trains farmers on improved cultivation of rabi crops

Kiphire, October 17 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kiphire, ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre conducted one day farmers’ training on improved cultivation of rabi crops at Longkok village in Kiphire on October 12.  

N. Khumdemo Ezung, Senior Scientist and Head (i/c) KVK, Kiphire, who was the resource person, in his first lecture provided an insight into the organizational set up of KVK and explained in detail its mandates and where the farmers can play pivotal role in the spread of technology within the village and nearby villages, informed a press release.  

In the second lecture, detailed discussion about the important rabi crops and their improved cultivation methods was conducted, where the farmers actively participated and interacted with the resource person. Khumdemo encouraged the farmers to take up rabi crops so as to increase their income. The resource person also emphasized on taking up sequence cropping following the main kharif crops so that the land is fully utilized and income of the farmers is doubled.

  In the second session, farmers’ scientist interaction was conducted. Facilitated by Dr. Patel, technical assistant, the interaction discussed in detail the agriculture scenario of the village. It resulted in identifying the problems faced by the farmers of the village regarding agriculture and farm animals which will help in working out an actionable programme for the village, the release stated.  

Rabi seeds were also distributed to the participating farmers. Earlier, the programme was chaired by the chairman of the village council, who thanked the KVK officials and Dr. D.J. Rajkowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland centre for conducting the programme and providing the inputs. The chairman, on behalf of the farmers, requested for more such programme in the village and assured full cooperation to the KVK.  

Altogether around 50 farmers participated in the training.
