LJP (Ram Vilas) recognised as a State Party in Nagaland

Dimapur, April 10 (MExN): The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) headed by  Chirag Paswan, has been granted  recognition by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a ‘State Party in the State of Nagaland’ under the provisions of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968.

The recognition was given on the basis of review of poll performance of LJP (Ram Vilas), in the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland, 2023, stated a letter issued by ECI Secretariat to Paswan dated April 10. 

As per the letter, the Party has fulfilled the conditions laid down in Para 6A of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, for recognition as a State Party in the State of Nagaland. 

The ECI further informed that the recognition is subject to the outcome of Dispute Case No. 1 of 2021. In the aforesaid case, the ECI granted the granted interim recognition to the “group headed by  Chirag Paswan as “a State Party in the State of Bihar pending disposal of the said Dispute Case.” 

Further, it is advised to propose a symbol preference from the free symbol list available on the Commission's website or propose three new symbols (along with design and drawing of the symbol) for the consideration of the Commission, the letter added. 

During the recently concluded elections to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the LJP (Ram Vilas) fielded 16 candidates, out of which two were successful.

Overall, the party garnered 8.64% over vote share and collected 30.08% in seats contested.
