Shillong | November 22

The Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Meghalaya (PDAM) has partially called off its proposed strike slated for November 25.

This decision was arrived at after the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Khasi Hills district, Matsiewdor War Nongbri had assured a delegation of the Association which had called on her on Friday, that their concerns will be looked into.

It may be noted here that PDAM had initially called the strike in protest against the alleged strong arm tactics that the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) was employing which was severely affecting the PDAM members.

It may also be noted here that the PDAM members had accused APMU of forcing them to hire people to work in the pumps failing which they would stop the supply of petrol to these pumps by blocking petrol tankers.

Being informed about the issue, the DC assured that she will take up the matter with the Oil Marketing Companies advising them to release loads of the four petrol pumps which have been closed now for the last three months.

She has also assured that she will take up the matter with the Kamrup district administration.

Being given these assurances and in light of the ongoing final examinations in many schools, PDAM has decided to partially call off the said strike.

“We have also decided to continue with the ‘No Purchase of Fuel’ from Oil marketing Companies for 24 hours followed by further programmes of agitation if supplies to the affected petrol pumps are not resumed unconditionally within seven days,” PDAM general secretary, Anvil Lyngdoh said.
