The construction of Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Kawrpuichhuah in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district on the Indo-Bangladesh border is making headway, an official said on Tuesday. He also said that the ICP, when completed, will boost border trade between Mizoram and Bangladesh.
Mizoram Commerce and Industries minister, Dr R Lalthangliana on Tuesday visited the site and inspected the construction work there.
The minister was received by officials of state PWD and ABCI Infrastructures Private Limted, who monitored the construction of 11.58 km road between Tlabung town and Kawrpuichhuah, according to official sources.
The minister was informed that the constructing agency has completed 74.77 per cent of road and 98 per cent of culverts have also been completed, sources said.
Funded by World Bank, the estimate cost of the road project is Rs 83 crore.
Citing that the Tlabung – Kawrpuichhuah is equally important for completion of the integrated check post, Lalthangliana urged officials of both PWD and ABCI Infrastructures Private Limited to carry out their work sincerely and expedite the construction.
The survey report for Kawrpuichhuah ICP was submitted by M/s Rites Ltd to the Union Home Ministry in 2005 and 74.37 acre of land was acquired for the project.
On January 17, the state PWD has submitted a detailed project reports (DPR) amounting to Rs 230 crores to Union Ministry of External Affairs for the construction of double lane concrete bridge over Kawrpui river to link Kawrpuichhuah with Bangladesh.
