Mon District Museum at Shamnyu Ward inaugurated

NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, officials of Tenak Society Mon and other dignitaries during the inauguration of Mon District Museum at Shamnyu Ward, Mon on November 16.


 

Mon, November 16 (MExN): Mon District Museum funded by Ministry of Culture, Government of India and constructed by Tenak Society Mon was inaugurated on November 16, by NDPP president and PDA chairman Chingwang Konyak at Shamnyu Ward, Mon Town.


Addressing the inaugural programme as the special guest, Chingwang lauded the efforts of Tenak Society for setting up the museum. He hoped that the museum will be beneficial in preserving the ancient antiques as well as the culture and tradition of the Konyaks in particular and Nagas in general.


He maintained that history of the Naga tradition and culture is a treasure for the next generation and it should not be neglected. He also encouraged the people to support the initiatives of Tenak  Society Mon in the up keep of the museum as a treasure. He further exhorted that youngsters should get into private sector and entrepreneurship.


Meanwhile, Chingwang also persuaded the gathering to prayerfully support the ongoing Naga political dialogue between the Naga national groups and the Central government to arrive at an early solution which is honourable and acceptable to all sections of the people.     


In her speech, Tenak Society Mon (TSM) Chairman, Tonlih Konyak said the proposal of the district museum started with a motive to preserve the rich culture and traditional artifacts of Konyak tribes in particular and the Nagas in general.


The Konyak tribe is very rich in traditional artifacts hence the society decided to get financial help from the Ministry of Culture to construct it for the benefit of the tribe, she said.


Stating that this museum is one of the first in the history of Mon district being undertaken by the TSM, she requested every individual and general public to contribute artifacts.


Chaired by Esther the programme commenced with Pastor of Konyak Baptist Church Mon Nahngom Konyak saying invocation while Teijem Khong Shamnyu Ward presented special number.
