NDPP bags Nagaland Lok Sabha Bye-Election

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)’s candidate Tokheho Yepthomi is poised to win the bye-election to the lone Lok Sabha Parliamentary constituency in Nagaland.  

According to the latest update from Chief Electoral Office Nagaland at 4:05 PM on Thursday, the total votes in favour of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate was 569043 and he was leading by a margin of 161440 votes.  

The opposition Naga People’s Front candidate C Apok Jamir was trailing behind with 407803 votes.  

3967 voters had opted the none of the above (NOTA) option as per the figure.  

The state went to poll on May 28 with a voting percentage of 86.73% as per the final CEO Nagaland figure.  

Accordingly, with the total number of voters at 11, 97, 436 and voting percentage of 86.73%, around 1038536 voters exercise their franchise on the polling day on May 28.  

Looking at the latest figure so far and taking into account the voting percentage, around 65657votes are left to be counted.

With the NDPP’s Yepthomi leading by a margin of 161440 votes, the outcome is clear and he has already won the race. It’s remains to be seen whether the margin would increase or decrease once the counting is over.   

The Lok Sabha bypoll in Nagaland was necessitated after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the NDPP leader, resigned as Member of Parliament to contest the State’s Assembly held on February 28.
