NF Railways affirm commitment to safety

Maligaon, November 11 (MExN): The NF Railways today informed that during the first six months of the current financial year, it has not only achieved almost all targets in terms asset renewal and maintenance but also surpassed targets in some of the parameters which are vital for ensuring safety in train operations.

This has been possible due to focused attention to works related to safety and giving priority to them, a press release from the NF Railways maintained.

During the April – October period, N. F. Railway has carried out 62% of the targeted Complete Track Renewal (CTR) although the proportionate target till October was 57% and thereby surpassed the target. During the same period, Through Rail Renewal (TRR) was carried out for 83% of the targeted 115 km of track, though the proportionate target till October was 67% of the total. Similarly, Through Fitting Renewal (TFR) was carried out for a total of 239km of track till October 2019 against a targeted 396 km for the year.

These achievements will help NF Railway not only to reach its targets in time but also help to take care of its track beyond the targeted length.

NF Railway has also started replacing conventional coaches with safer LHB coaches in phased manner and during first six months of the current financial year we have introduced 249 such coaches till October against the proportionate target of 175 coaches.

It was further informed that Indian Railway has decided to eliminate all level crossings in a phased manner, and towards that direction NF Railway is gradually eliminating identified Manned Level Crossings. This year a total of 21 Manned Level Crossings were targeted for elimination and out of these 10 have already been eliminated. While eight of them were replaced by Road under Bridge or Subways, two of them were closed by merging them with nearby existing level crossings.

During the period under review (i.e. April – October 2019) NF Railway has also carried out Ultrasonic Fault Detection (USFD) in 10,410 km of railway tracks to detect defect or fracture which are not normally visible to naked eye. This is almost 2,200 km more than the target for the period and about 1,400 km of track was tested for USFD in the month of October alone keeping in view the onset of winter so that possible rail fracture due to extreme weather conditions can be detected in advance.
