NSLSA attends National meet of Para Legal Volunteers

DIMAPUR, April 30 (MExN): With a vision to strengthen the manner in which Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) work at the grassroots and find a way forward for the challenges being faced by them, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) attended the two days National meet of PLVs with the theme ‘Soldiers for Legal Services Institutions at Grassroots Para Legal Volunteers’ organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in association with Delhi State Legal Services Authority at New Delhi on April 29 and 30.  

The five NSLSA members attending the meet are Nino Iralu, Member Secretary NSLSA and Special Judge TDP Vigilance Commission, TucunoVamuzo, Secretary Longleng DLSA and CJM, B. Yemlong Chaba, PLV Tuensang DLSA and Zonal Best PLV 2016, L. Pukho Meyo, PLV Tuensang DLSA and Medochutuo Kiewhuo, PLV Kohima DLSA.  

Justice J.S. Khehar, Chief Justice of India and Patron-in-Chief NALSA inaugurated the event.  Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Law and Justice and Electronics and Information Technology delivered special address, while Justice Dipak Misra, Judge Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman NALSA pronounced the keynote address.  

This was followed by technical sessions focusing on subjects such as role of PLVs in spreading awareness about availability of legal services, mainstreaming of legal aid through CSCs by attaching PLVs, best practices adopted by PLVs: overall perspective, role of PLVs in implementing scheme of NALSA and concluding remarks and way forward. Judges of Supreme Court of India and Judges of High Court who are also the Secretary and Chairman of State Legal Services Authority were the speakers in the technical session.

B. Yemlong Chaba, PLV Tuensang DLSA and Zonal Best PLV 2016 also gave a presentation at the national meet. Member Secretaries, SLSAs, Secretaries of DLSAs and selected PLVs from all over the country participated in the meet.
