Proposal for 342 posts at NMISR under consideration by Nagaland Government

85% of seats to be reserved for State’s students

Kohima, May 10 (MExN): The proposal for creation of as many as 342 teaching as well as non-teaching staffs for the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NMISR) has been put up to the State Government and it is under consideration, the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench was informed on Wednesday.  

As directed by the Court earlier, the Additional Advocate General representing the Nagaland Government and Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare as well as the counsel for the others respondents from DoHFW on May 10 submitted compliance affidavits informing of the development.

In view of the above and as requested by counsels for the respondents, the Division Bench of Justice Nani Tagia and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita listed the next hearing of the batch of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) pertaining to the Medical College project as well as infrastructures, workforce and other amenities in the district hospitals, health centres and other health related issues, after four weeks.

It must be noted here that during the last hearing on April 12, the Additional Advocate General placed a letter dated 28.03.2023 written to him by the Joint Secretary, HFW regarding the issue 342 positions. 

Accordingly, the Court then directed the AAG to file proper affidavit with regard to the creation of 342 posts. It was further informed that the contractor of NIMSR building had given assurance that entire work would be completed and handed over by May 2023.

Meanwhile, Nagaland HFW Minister P Paiwang Konyak has announced that National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 100 MBBS seats for NIMSR and the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or (MBBS) programme will start the academic session 2023-2024.  

Out of 100 seats, 85% will be reserved for students from the State of Nagaland and 15% seats for All-India quota, he informed.

The NMC conducted two rounds of physical inspection of NIMSR and NHAK (Affiliated Teaching Hospital to NIMSR) on 10.01.2023 and 27.03.2023 and satisfied with the progress of the Medical College and the Teaching Hospital, it issued Letter of Intent (Lol) to NIMSR on 18.04.2023 and Letter of Permission (LoP) on 24.4.2023, the Minister added.
