The Government of India’s interlocutor for the Indo-Naga peace talks, RN Ravi’s scheduled meeting with Naga tribe hohos and civil society organizations of Nagaland at Kohima on February 26 was spread over two separate closed-door sessions with the media barred.

Ravi, who is also the GoI’s Deputy National Security Advisor, met representatives of the various tribe hohos in the first session, which lasted from 2:00-5:00 pm. The second session from 7:00-9:00 pm was with civil society organisations.

One source, who attended the second session, informed that it was an “interactive meeting” with the interlocutor dwelling on the progress of the talks with the NSCN (IM) and the Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) and taking questions from the gathered CSOs.

Queried on the prospect of any fresh development in the talks, the source responded in the negative while commenting, “It was the same old song” without specifics.

He added that much of the meeting centred on early and honourable resolution with Ravi maintaining that the talks were “in an advanced stage.” “He mentioned that the parties involved in the talks – GoI, NSCN (IM) and the WCNNPGs – have agreed on major dialogue points,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the meeting scheduled in Dimapur on February 27 will take place in the Police House, Chümoukedima. Dimapur-based NGOs and organisations from Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh “are requested to meet and interact with the visiting official (Ravi) on 27.02.2019 from 1PM onwards,” informed the Home Department.

A revised notification issued by the Home Department on February 25 included 21 organisations in the list of invitees. There were 5 from Manipur- United Naga Council, Naga Women’s Union Manipur, All Naga Students Association Manipur, Naga Leaders Political Forum Imphal and Chandel Naga People’s Organisation and 2 from Arunachal Pradesh- Tirap, Changlang & Longding People’s Forum and Tirap District Chiefs’ Council.

The Special Secretary, Home when contacted said that it was not an exclusive list and that other organizations are also welcome. It was informed that organisations wishing to attend can register at the meeting venue.
