Kohima | November 9 T

he indefinite sit-in-protest spearheaded by NPF Central Youth Wing led by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu was suspended here today after staging for 14 days.

The Central Youth Wing hadcalled the dharna from October 23 to protest against alleged inaction of the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) in delivering judgment on disqualification issue, recognition of NPF Legislature Party leader and NPF Chief Whip.

The dharna has been suspended from today keeping in mind the forthcoming NPF general convention slated for November 22 in Kohima, the Youth Wing said.

However, the Youth Wing Vice President, Achamo Kikon said the dharna was ‘only suspended, not call off,’ and could be resumed anytime.

Since October 23, the Youth Wing has been holding the sit-in-protest with placards such as “Speaker must follow Assembly rules,” “Justice delayed is justice denied,” “Assembly Secretariat office should not be misused,” and so on.

Sleepless night for the Speaker, claims Azo

Earlier, addressing the gathering, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu said though no positive response has come out from NLA Speaker’s office, he felt that “they have achieved something.”

For the past two weeks the Speaker has been having sleepless nights and “he will continue to have sleepless night until and unless our proposals are put into action,” he claimed.

Azo prayed that good sense will prevail in the mind of the Speaker and “he will come out with some positive result.”

He said that 12th House of the NLA was totally in chaos because of disrespect to one another, adding that the “Legislators have to respect the party and the party has to respect the legislators” and also the respect for seniors within the party.

On personal note, Azo said “To err is human and to forgive is divine.”

“If we don’t become bigger, how can we produce MLAs, how can we take over government?,” he said adding “Let us allow bygone be bygone. Let us forget the bitter past.”

Shaken those in Authority: Yitachu

MLA Yitachu said through its motto “Fide Non Armis,” the Central Youth Wing had displayed one of the most peaceful yet powerful displays of resentment and projecting the right of the people of the state.

In the process, he said, “we have a lot of record in place, and it has shaken those in authority and even the government at the centre.”

Yitachu further maintained that the Governor was the main behind violation of the Indian constitution.   He also noted that 11 members in its fold is too big a number, and they can move even a private member bill.

As the party elected representative to the assembly, “we are not going to shy away from any responsibility. We are prepared and we will take it,” Yitachu asserted.

Stating that the party has proven that they were fighting for the right of the Naga people by staging a peaceful protest, he lauded the Central Youth Wing for living up to its motto.

A strong message is conveyed to others that violence is not ultimate means to bring about solution over any matter, Yitachu said, adding that a peaceful approach is the most powerful approach.

Fighting for Naga people include protesting against those unconstitutionally running the government that legal system should prevail, the constitution should be meticulously followed and people should get their due share of governance and development, he elaborated.

While stating that the party is not against anybody taking over government as long as it is constitutionally correct and legally right, Yitachu, however, asserted that “we will not allow any illegal activities or anything that threaten the very existence of the state of Nagaland and its people.”

‘Our door is not closed’

On a conciliatory note, Shürhozelie led NPF Working President Apong Pongener said that there is no permanent enemy and permanent friends in politics.

“Our door is not closed. We will keep the door open,” he said.   He said NPF is the oldest regional party in the NE and 2nd in the country and it has done so much during 50 years, deeply rotted in the grassroot.

“It should not go in vain. We should always look forward to grow bigger and taller,” he said.

Stressing on the need to unite and work together, he said “Let us forget about the past. Our future is more important.”

NPF CEC member Povotso Lohe said in any political set up, the legislators are not above the party.

The party constitution is supreme and the party is above the legislators,” he added.

Lohe, however, expressed dismay that some of the NPF legislators (37) thought that they were above the party. “We shall overcome this crisis. The Constitution of India will allow us to overcome this crisis,” he said.
