Students attend wildlife protection programme at Tsiepama

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): The Wildlife Division, Dimapur conducted an awareness programme on wildlife protection at Tsiepama village on May 3 on the theme, ‘one by one until there are none.’ The awareness programme is part of Wildlife Division’s continuous campaign, “maximum awareness with effective enforcement”, with the objective to instill in young minds, “the importance of Wildlife at an early age”, to solicit the support and cooperation of the public in protection of wildlife and to optimize their participation and involvement in effectively curbing the wildlife crime.  

The officials of the department appealed to the participants to be informed, be a custodian and contribute towards protection of wildlife from the threat of extinction. Lamenting that despite dedicated efforts of NGOs, government officials and agencies, the future of many wildlife could not be secured and that it is not possible to reverse the gear of time and undo what has been done. But sincere efforts should be made by all towards securing the future of what we have now.  

The officials also explained the implication of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and other similar Acts of the State government and stated that Wildlife Crime is as serious as any other crimes and violation would amount to stringent action under WL(P) Acts.  

The representatives of the village assured of fullest cooperation to the department in effectively tackling the wildlife crimes. As part of awareness programme, drawing competition was held where 23 students participated in three category of sub-junior, junior and senior and winners were given prize.
