Displaced families urged to return

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): The district administration of Kiphire through a forum, “Peace Forum,” has appealed to all Sangtam and Yimchunger families who fled the district following heightened tensions between the two communities over issues concerning landownership. The Peace Forum comprises various communities and seeks to thaw tensions between the Sangtam and Yimchunger communities. The forum met in Zisaji Presidency College on September 1 where an appeal was made to the two communities to maintain peace and not to resort to any “unwanted situation.”

Peace Forum issued a message today, appended by Convener Dr. V. Thingo appealing to those who had fled Kiphire earlier, to return to their respective places “to maintain their daily chores of normal life as situation overall turn to normal.”

“As no untoward incidence nor any other scare cases that is observed in different place in the district.

Therefore the Peace Forum sincerely appeal to both communities of Yimchunger and Sangtam families who left Kiphire and Pungro Town respectively to return back to their home without fears and any misgivings,” the message stated. ‘All sections of people should shun violence … to maintain cordial relationship for development proposes,’ the forum said.

The forum said that social harmony is most important but ‘violence, clashes and social divide’ cause “heavy losses particularly to the parties concern.” Further, division and enmity affects the public as a whole. “Violence is never in the interest of the people,” the forum said.

“One must know how to live together and adjust with one another. After all, the two communities will be living together only. Going against one another is not in the interest of both parties. But cordial relationship of both parties will contribute immensely to the society in particular and the state in general,” the forum added.
