Govt orders IRB probe

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN):  The Government of Nagaland has instituted a 3-man inquiry committee to inquire into the August 21 near-sedition of 10th Nap (IR) Bn personnel who were to leave for West Bengal. Among the issues the government wanted to know from the inquiry also included reasons for reported unruly behavior of IRB personnel in general in Nagaland.

On August 21, personnel of the IR force readying for deployment to West Bengal had roused rabble protesting a number of grievances that had among others, aged and worn weapons and ammunitions and alleged lapses in service facilities. 

A notification was received here today from the Home department, Police administration, appended by CJ Ponraj, Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland. The committee is Commissioner Khulu, IAS as chairman and Secretaries KN Chishi and L Sangsit, IPS as members.

The committee is to inquire into the circumstances and events leading to the August 21 upheaval at the Chumukedima police training complex involving the 10th NAP (IR) Bn who were readying for deployment to West Bengal; the department’s preparation to send the force for the deployment; the command and control of the commanding officer and his subordinate officers’ lapses, negligence or dereliction of duty, if any, on their part; incidents of unruly behavior reported against IRB forces in general in Nagaland and the reasons for this unruly behavior; the system and policy of deployment of IRB personnel outside the state. The committee is also understood to recommend measures to prevent such unruly behavior by the IRB forces in and police personnel in general in Nagaland.   The committee is to submit the report within one month from the date this notification was issued.
