Weather based Integrated Agro Advisory for the month of June

As per India Meteorological Department, Long range Forecast of rainfall for monsoon season 2022. Southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September) rainfall over the country as a whole is most likely to be normal. Monsoon seasonal rainfall is likely to be well distributed spatially with most parts of the country expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall except some parts of east central, east & northeast India and extreme southwest peninsular India, where it is likely to be below normal. 

Monthly outlook for rainfall and temperature for the Month of June 2022

1.    Rainfall: Normal or above normal rainfall is most likely over many parts of northwest & central India, northern parts of South Peninsula and some parts of east India. Below normal rainfall is most likely over many parts of northeast India, some pockets of central & east India and southern parts of south peninsular India. 

2.    Temperature: Below normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except some parts of northwest India where above normal maximum temperatures are likely. Below normal minimum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except many parts of northwest and northeast India where above normal minimum temperatures are likely.

Total monthly rainfall received in Dimapur district during May month was 224.7mm, 42% above normal. The number of rainy days for the month of May was 11. 

Plant Breeding & Genetics –Harendra Verma

*    Farmers should start arrangement/ procurement of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides from authentic source having proper labeling.  

*    Medium duration rice varieties suitable for lowland paddy cultivation in Nagaland are RC maniphou-7 and RCM-10.

*    Medium duration rice variety suitable for upland paddy cultivation is Bhalum-3.

*    Farmers should do seed treatment of paddy and maize with Vitavax (carboxin + Thiram) 2-3 g/kg seed.

*    Suitable variety of green gram for Nagaland is Pratap.

*    For control of stem borer, farmers can spray anyone of the insecticides below as a last resort. Read the label carefully for full instructions. Spray only on calm, windless days.

1.    Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC 150ml/ha or

2.    Chlorantraniliprole 0.4% G 10kg/ha or

3.    Flubendiamide 20% WG 125 g/ha, or

4.    Flubendiamide 39.35% M/M SC 50g/ha, or

5.    Phosphamidon  40% SL 1250ml/ha.

Dos & don’ts for thunderstorm and lightening in agriculture 

Dos

1.    In view of thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds, provide mechanical support to orchards, staking in vegetables. 

2.    If farmers are in the field and can’t find any shelter, avoid the tallest object in the area. If only isolated trees are nearby, best protection is to crouch in the open. 

3.    Keep animals away from open water, pond or river.

4.    Keep animals away from tractors and other metal farm equipment. 

5.    Drain out excess water from standing crops. 

6.    Cover the harvested produce (if in the field) with polythene sheet. 

Don’ts 

1.    Avoid contact with electrical equipment or cords.

2.    Keep away contact with anything metal - tractors, farm equipment and bicycles. As metal or other surfaces that conduct electricity. 

3.    Don’t allow your animals to congregate under trees. Watch your animals closely and try to keep them under your direct control.
