Nagaland Taxes Dept arrests 1 for tax fraud

The Department of Taxes, Nagaland arrested one person on August 4 in a suspected tax fraud. The Additional Commissioner of State Taxes (Enforcement) informed that it has arrested an unnamed individual, who is a ‘Power of Attorney’ holder of a construction firm (TT Construction) based in Nagaland, and charged under the provisions of the GST Act. 

A two-sentence press release, informing of the arrest said that the accused individual wrongfully availed Input Tax Credit (ITC) amounting to Rs 7cr by using fake invoices. “The case is under investigation and the actual amount of fraud involved in the case can be ascertained only after the completion of the process of investigation,” it said.  

It was further learnt that the investigation started in 2019-20 after detection of anomalies in GST filing by the private firm. As per the investigation, electronic invoices were obtained illegally for claiming ITC while there was no business transaction to show.
