Nagaland registered 23 new COVID-19 positive cases Sunday morning taking the State's total tally to 771.


“23 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. 18 in Dimapur, 4 in Phek, 1 in Kohima,” updated State Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom on Twitter.


As per the update, the State's COVID-19 status as of 9:30 AM, July 12 stood at: Positive: 771; Active: 458; and Recovered: 313.


Meanwhile, data provided by the State Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW) indicated that while it took 36 days for the state to reach the 500 mark, within 11 days since July 1, the total reached 748 (an increase by 248 cases) till July 11.


The surges in cases were also due to infection within the quarantine centres when personal safety measures were compromised, the department maintained. 


The weekly bulletin issued by the DoHFW on July 11, however, informed there was no community transmission yet. 


In the last one week, the highest spike was on July 10 when 59 cases were reported with maximum cases from Kohima and Peren districts, including military and paramilitary personnel. 


The highest spike till now has been recorded on June 22 with 69 cases in a day which were mostly reported from Peren.


Information on Nagaland COVID-19 Dashboard informed that out of 771 cases, 580 were males while the rest – 191 were females. 


Most cases were in the 18-44 years age group at 738 followed by 16 each in the 0-17 and 45-64 years age bracket. There was a single case in the 65-74 years age group.
