One person was injured, and four trucks washed away, as the Chathe river swelled without warning, again, following heavy downpour upstream, on June 16.
The incident occurred in the Nihoto stretch of the river around 2:00 pm. According to eyewitness accounts, workers mining boulder were caught unaware as the river swelled rapidly. All managed to get to safety, while one was injured. The nature of the injury was said to be not life threatening.
Four trucks, onto which the workers were loading boulders, had to be abandoned as the torrent hit. Two were taken some 400-500 metres downstream, while the other two turned turtle sustaining heavy damage.
Earlier in April, two trucks were badly damaged in similar circumstance in the same river between Kukidolong and Chümoukedima. The two trucks were parked on the river bed to be loaded with boulders.

While the rain brought respite from the heat, it also brought a deluge of slush at several locations on the Dimapur to Kohima 4-lane highway, NH 29. Commuters, on Monday, reported coming across debris flowing on to the carriageway from the cliffs overlooking the highway creating safety hazards.
In one spot, falling between Tsiepama and Piphema, vehicles had to take turns crossing a culvert overflowing with muddy waters.
