53 institutions and 15 art schools took part in the 3rd Mega Art Festival 2019, the Award Ceremony of which was held here today at Covenant Hall, Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

Organized by Chitrakala and Euro School of Fine Art, Dimapur, the event, known to be the biggest art festival in the state, saw a participation of more than 1000 students from Nagaland and the neighboring states.

Sandeep Jain, Chairman and Principal of Euro International School acknowledged the parents, despite the weather on a Sunday, for their dedication in bringing their children all the way to the venue.

Jain said the festival is for the students who are interested in fine art, and while the festival was getting bigger, he observed the competition was also getting tougher.

The festival’s main objective is to take arts to the next level, Jain emphasized, while reminiscing on the old days where as a young student, art for him was “scenery with three mountains and a house and trees.”

“Art has gone beyond, it is not just a hobby, it has turned into a career.”

Jain encouraged the young students to strive for excellence and the parents to continue motivating their children in the field they have a passion for.

Moaso Aier, an acclaimed artist also enlightened the gathering, sharing her part of story. Stating that she was always an artist as a child, Aier however regretted back then, art as a career was never an option for anyone.

She further brushed off the notion that being an artist is an inborn talent that they simply scribble their way to success.

“Being an artist is not an easy task,” maintained Aier, while adding that she still practice 6 to 8 hours daily.
“You have to be dedicated and committed to work if you want to be at the top.”

Sharing her experience of getting the opportunity to work with some of the best artists in the world, and to have her art works selected amongst the best in the world was a different kind of feeling, Aier added, who was one of the judges at the event.

Working with renowned galleries at present, Aier credited her success to her dedication and hard work, her desire to get better and by the blessings of God.

Certain pieces of art selected by her team will be put up for exhibition at the Hornbill International Festival this year, she informed.

Earlier, Chief Guest Dr Imotemsu Ao, Director of Global University expressed delight to be part of the occasion.

“Stop comparing yourself to others. You have to find a niche where you are the best, it doesn’t matter how small your area is,” he advised the students.

Guest of Honor, Neena Dutta, Principal, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School also expressed happiness to see the young students thriving in the field of art, and wished them all the best.

Students were awarded in five categories accordingly – A, A1, B, C and D. Categories B, C and D were further adjudged in three separate sections of ‘sketch, color and theme.’

The overall champions as per categories are: A1 category was won by Dishank Chakraborty, class 3 student of Holy Home Higher Secondary School; B category – Zaara Abdul, class 6 student of Hope Academy; C category – Vikheka A Ayemi, class 6 student of Hope Academy; D category – Apelo Kappo, class 11 student of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School.
