1.05% blindness prevalence rate in state

Kohima, July 17 (MExN): A review meeting of the National Programme for Control of Blindness 2009-2010 and 2010-11(April to June 2010) was held at the IDSP Conference Hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima on July 16 last.

The meeting was attended by the District Nodal Officers of 10 districts and a host of Senior Government Officials including Menukhol John, Commissioner & Secretary, Dr. V. Sekhose, Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr. K. Assumi, Addl. Director H&FW and Dr. M. Takonuksung Lemtor, Joint Director H&FW & SPO (NPCB). Performance reports from all the attending District Nodal Officer were presented and various issues regarding the implementation of the National Programme for Control of Blindness in the State were deliberated upon. The state has a prevalence rate of Blindness at 1.05% and a total of 1046 Cataract cases were successfully operated upon during 2009-10 and 189 cases during 2010-2011 (April to June’10).
