Newmai News Network Shillong | December 10 Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy has dubbed the 10th East Himalayan Expo, 2018 which he inaugurated on Monday as a platform for a long term on-spot business tie-up for the entrepreneurs. Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, the Governor said that the expo will be a platform for a long term on-spot business tie-up for the entrepreneurs. “North eastern region being endowed with rich natural resources has a potential to bring in more opportunities in the trade and tourism sector, he said. During the programme, the Governor along with other dignitaries also released the “10th East Himalayan Expo Guide” book. This year, the East Himalayan Expo assumes significance especially when the country is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of “Father of Nation” Mahatma Gandhi and it inspires all citizens to rededicate themselves towards the task of nation building. The Expo which is being organized from December 10 to 17 aims to widen trade horizons and enhance business links in the Eastern Himalayan region especially when there is focus of the Government on “Act East Policy.” This year, the event is also significant as Shillong has been selected as the 100th city under the Centre’s flagship “Smart Cities Mission” and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). With a considerable participation from North East region, this year over 200 leading companies, the Expo elicited triple response as compared to last year. The participation profile covers a number of companies representing MSME, APEDA and CAPART and such. The display profile covers a wide range of eco-friendly products which includes organic products, packed foods, carpets, home furnishing, kitchenware, AYUSH products, textiles, woolen garments, leather goods, health and beauty products, food and confectionary items, handicrafts, garments, products of rural artisans, Self Help Groups, SME’s products and services. The East Himalayan Expo 2018 will be open from 10 am to 6 pm daily.
