A Common Platform for the 10th Northern Angami Assembly Constituency organised by the Kohima village was held on February 17 at Ziekezou, Kewhimia ground.

Two candidates will be vying for the 10th Northern Angami Constituency seat namely Khriehu Liezietsu, representing Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) and Kekhrie Yhome representing Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

Liezietsu spoke on the achievements on his previous tenure citing contributions such as the setting up of the ALS Coaching centre in Kohima and providing sponsorship to over 12 students in the constituency, construction of indoor stadiums in the four khels in Kohima village, working women hostel, sanitation projects, road construction and other contributions towards the field of sports and music. “I want to bring greater developments not just for the constituency but for our entire State,” said Liezietsu who also cited future projects for his constituency. “I will serve the public with integrity. I will work towards the progressive empowerment of the status of women.” stated Liezietsu.

Putting the Naga youth as his main focus, Kekhrie Yhome representing Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) mentioned that the need to work and enable the Naga youth motivated him to enter politics. Yhome also reflected on the absence of values in Naga society today, where one’s votes is being sold off, leaders ruling for money and leaving the public helpless in determining their government.

“The public need to take back their power. We are choosing leaders who govern for money. We cannot allow a few people to misuse the money. You must decide your choice,” said Yhome who also assured that once elected he will bring development with the consent and outlook of the public.

On a question raised by an audience who asked the candidate’s view on BJP being the political wing of the RSS force which has persecuted Christians in the country and the recent BJP-NDPP alliance, Yhome replied that the alliance is not a new alliance but started in 2003 with the NPF-BJP alliance. Yhome also reminded that this alliance is not going to compromise one’s faith and beliefs.
