Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president S.I. Jamir today released a booklet entitled “11 years of NPF misrule in Nagaland under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio”, an expose by NPCC here today at Congress Bhavan.
The booklet containing 54 pages stated that 11 years of NPF rule under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio has stunted the growth and development of the State. “The total misgovernance is reflected by the dilapidated condition of infrastructures all over the state. Instead of governing the state, the chief minister has been more concerned and pre occupied with countless festive and merrymaking activities.”
It also alleged that years of rampant financial mismanagement and blatant corruption has emptied the state coffers “while the personal wealth of the chief minister and his coteries has grown manifold.”
It stated that the past decade under chief minister Neiphiu Rio has only brought miseries to the people who have been burdened and threatened from all ends while other states have progressed rapidly in all fields.
The booklet also said that the now “infamous” slogan of the NPF and its coalition partners during state assembly elections in 2003 promising to bring solution to the vexed Indo-Naga political issue within three months, if voted to power, has been relegated to the background.
“The chief minister’s professed policy of equi-closeness with underground groups has yielded more negative returns. The growing resentment of the public against the UG groups for its high handedness and ruthlessly taxing every item worth its name threatens to derail the Naga political settlement,” the NPCC asserted.
The NPCC also stated that the mushrooming of parallel government across the state that has hijacked the writ of the state on the issue of Naga nationalism, and DAN government turning a blind eye to the “nefarious activities” have severely affected people across all sections of the society.
It accused that authority of an elected government has been greatly compromised on countless occasions when the state machinery broke down completely in the face of grave law and order situation that put the lives of its citizens at great peril. It declared that rampant extortions, kidnapping, murders etc have become a routine affairs and have compounded the misery of the people.
The NPCC also added that the frequency with which chief minister Rio paid visit to top BJP leaders in Delhi has never gone unnoticed, stating “hobnobbing with the BJP known more for its ideological moorings with the RSS that is even despised by majority of liberal Hindus for their communal and divisive agenda does not augur well for a Christian majority state like Nagaland.”
