DIMAPUR, JULY 2 (MExN): A 12 hour Assam Bandh has been called by the apex body of six communities on July 3, starting 5:00am in the morning. Reports from Assam informed that the bandh has been called due to non fulfillment of assurances given by the government in awarding Scheduled Tribe status to the 6 communities viz Kuch-Rajbongshi, Moran, Motok, Tai Ahom, Chutia and ‘Tea Tribes’ of Assam. Reports speculated that the bandh effect will be highly felt in the districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat, bordering Nagaland. Travelers have been advised to avoid using the routes in these Assam districts.
