Diphu, April 9 (MExN): The Hills State Demand Council (HSDC) has called for a 12 hour Karbi Anglong bandh from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm of April 10. A press release from the HSDC charged the BJP Governments – both at the Centre and at the State – for “totally” failing to protect the boundaries of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao with Nagaland and Meghalaya. This, the HSDC alleged, has “emboldened land mafias to grab vast tract of land”. The HSDC alleged that NSCN (IM) General Secretary Th. Muivah in a recent statement at Hebron had claimed that “vast tract of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao will be included in the proposed Greater Nagalim in line with the Framework Agreement”. In this regard, the Council called for making the contents of the Framework Agreement public. “The repeated assertions of the successive Meghalaya Governments both inside and outside the Assembly points to the fact that BJP Government has failed to protect the boundaries of Karbi Anglong with Meghalaya,” it added. However, all essential services like medical, fire services, and examinations are exempted from the purview of the bandh. Delegates of the Karbi Anglong Presbyterian Church Synod returning from Ronkimi to their own places are also exempted from the purview of the bandh.
