DIMAPUR, JUNe 15 (MExN): The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dimapur, in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Guwahati, organized a distribution camp under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) scheme.
The event took place at Chapel Hall, District Hospital Dimapur, on June 15, a DIPR report stated. Supported by the District Administration, Dimapur and the National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled, Dimapur, the camp aimed to provide essential aids and appliances to differently-abled persons, enhancing their physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation.
Dr Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur and Chairman of the District Management Team (DMT), DDRC Dimapur, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of the camp in empowering disabled individuals and improving their quality of life.
Dr Chang thanked the caregivers for their dedication and urged the gathering to inform other differently-abled persons about the facilities provided by the government. He also encouraged beneficiaries to obtain a disability certificate after assessment from the specialised board set up in District Hospital, Dimapur.
Dr Imlitemsu Ozukum, MD (PMR) and Senior Specialist In-Charge of District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dimapur chaired the program and delivered the keynote address and welcome speech. He highlighted the objective of the ADIP scheme in assisting needy disabled persons in procuring durable, sophisticated, and scientifically manufactured aids and appliances.
He mentioned that 126 differently-abled individuals were identified in Dimapur and Chümoukedima, and 181 assistive aids, including smartphones, crutches, wheelchairs, and hearing aids, were issued during the camp.
Short speeches were delivered by Vikili, a PwD beneficiary; Dr. Limatula Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur; Dr T Mohan, Assistant Director (Employment), NCSC for Differently Abled, Dimapur; and Mukesh Misra, Manager & I/C North East Region, ALIMCO. Earlier, invocation was pronounced by Rev. Yhunlo Thong, Chaplain of District Hospital Dimapur. The event concluded with the distribution of aids and appliances to the beneficiaries.
