The Luke Sasong Sporting Association (LSSA) under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students’ Union will be organizing the twelfth edition of the Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy which will be held at Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung from October 4-7. The information was given during a press conference called by LSSA at Mangmetong Ki, Mongsenbai ward, Mokokchung on September 27.
The Trophy was previously held only at the Moangmetong village level but this year the association decided to hold the trophy at the district headquarters. All together twelve teams will be participating at the trophy, informed Moatoshi Longkumer, member, LSSA including one team from Wokha and one from Kohima.
LSSA President, T Mendang Imchen has informed that the champions will be awarded a cash prize of seventy thousand along with trophy and certificates while the runner-up will win a cash prize of forty thousand along with certificates. Two semi final teams will also be awarded ten thousand each and three individual prizes will also be given at the trophy: Man of the Tournament, Best Setter, and Best Spiker. They will all be awarded a cash prize of five thousand each.
The Association further informed that the inaugural programme will be graced by Longdiba Sangtam, SDO (Civil), Mokokchung while in the closing programme Shanringain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA will be the special guest. The Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy is held in memory of Late Luke Sasong who was one of the first educationist and prominent personality from Mangmetong village.
