Longleng, February 21 (MExN): The 12th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of ICAR-KVK, Longleng was convened in a hybrid mode at the training cum auditorium hall of KVK, bringing together scientists, officials from various departments of state and progressive farmers.

The meeting was held to review the Annual Progress Report (2024) and deliberate on the Annual Action Plan (2025) for advancing agricultural development in Longleng district, stated a press release received here.

The meeting was chaired by Dr H Kalita, Head, ICAR-Nagaland Centre, ICAR-RC-NEH Region and was graced from remote participation by Dr AK Mohanty, Director, ATARI Zone VII and Dr B Singh, Nodal officer for KVKs, ICAR-NEH Meghalaya. The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr H Kalita, setting the stage for a series of insightful discussions.

Dr S Hazarika, Principal Scientist and Head, DSRE, ICAR-RC-NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya and Dr SK Das, Principal Scientist (Fishery Science), ICAR-RC-NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya provided an overview of the region’s agricultural landscape and emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving sustainable farming practices.

The Annual Progress Report (2024) was presented by Dr Hari Charan Kalita, Senior Scientist, ICAR-KVK Longleng, highlighting the key achievements, challenges, and innovations implemented over the past year. Following this, the Annual Action Plan (2025) was meticulously outlined by the respective Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of ICAR-KVK Longleng, ensuring a strategic roadmap for the upcoming year. 

The meeting also benefitted from remote participation by Dr AK Mohanty, Director, ATARI Zone VII, and Dr B Singh Nodal officer for KVKs, ICAR-NEH Meghalaya, who provided key guidance on strengthening research-extension linkages and policy-level recommendations for the agricultural sector. 

Dr S Hazarika, Principal Scientist and Head, DSRE, ICAR-RC-NEH Region and Dr SK Das, Principal Scientist (Fishery Science), ICAR-RC-NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya provided insights for modifications in the Action Plan to enhance scientific approach to various research activities of KVK Longleng.

The meeting saw the active engagement of key line departments, including the Department of Agriculture (DAO), Department of Horticulture (DHO), Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry (Deputy CVO), Department of Forestry (DFO) and Fisheries Department. These stakeholders played a pivotal role in aligning scientific advancements with grassroots agricultural practices.

Representatives from the National State Rural Livelihood Mission, alongside six progressive farmers from Longleng, shared firsthand experiences and challenges, fostering a robust dialogue on sustainable farming solutions.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session, where committee members, scientists, and stakeholders exchanged perspectives on enhancing research-driven interventions, fostering interdepartmental synergy and promoting farmer-centric innovations. The recommendations put forth will serve as a guiding force in shaping the future initiatives of ICAR-KVK Longleng, ensuring sustainable agricultural growth in the region.
