Longleng, February 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission has concluded its one-month free training course on Masonry & Tiling and Electrical & Plumbing, which was conducted from January 19 to February 19.
Altogether, 130 youths were trained under the initiative held at the Phom Lempong Center in Nyengchingkong, Longleng, in collaboration with AISECT and the May I Help You Organisation (MIHYO). The programme focused on hands-on learning to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment and economic empowerment in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Langnyak Phom and featured a series of addresses and performances highlighting community collaboration. The programme began with registration, followed by an invocation prayer by B Pangpent, Pastor of Orangkong Baptist Church (OBC).
A welcome address was delivered by K Lenangh Angh, President and Executive Director, on behalf of MIHYO, setting an inspirational tone for the participants. The gathering was also treated to a special song by H Lien Phom.
Trainers from AISECT provided an overview of the course curriculum, emphasising hands-on learning and real-world applications.
Short speeches were delivered by Kito Sumi, AISECT Member; Talemba Phom, ES, Phom Baptist Christians Association (PBCA); Y B Angam Phom, President, Phom People's Council (PPC); A Ainyu, President, Phomla Hoichem (PH); and Bauom Phom, Social & Cultural Secretary, Phom Students' Conference (PSC).
The speakers underscored the importance of skill development in building a sustainable future for Nagaland’s communities, with emphasis on youth empowerment and economic growth.
The special guest, Imkongnukla Ao, EAC, Longleng, delivered the keynote address, lauding the initiative for bridging skill gaps and promoting inclusive development. She encouraged participants by sharing a real-life example and explaining the importance of becoming skilled professionals.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Imkongchingba Phom, MIHYO Member, followed by a benediction pronounced by Chulei, Christian Education Secretary, PBCA.
The closing ceremony saw the distribution of toolkits to all participants, equipping them with essential resources to apply their newly acquired skills in practical settings.
The successful completion of the training marks a significant step towards addressing skill gaps in Nagaland’s communities, enabling youths to contribute to local development and pursue sustainable careers in the construction sector.
