14.3 kg opium seized on NH-29, one held

ZUBZA, MAY 23 (MExN): Troops of the 78 Battalion CRPF, in coordination with personnel from Sechu Zubza Police Station, recovered 14.312 kg of suspected opium during a routine frisking operation on NH-29 near Peducha (old police picket) on Friday. A press statement received from the RGS78 BN CRPF informed that the contraband was recovered from a Tata Winger (registration No MN-06B-1350) traveling from Senapati (Manipur) to Dimapur. During checking, a passenger identified as Dharam Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, attempted to flee after requesting to relieve himself. He was apprehended by CRPF jawans after a 500-meter chase into the nearby hills. Upon inspection of his luggage, a black Safari trolley and an olive-green bag, two packets wrapped in black polythene, two 'khaini' containers, and a small packet suspected to contain opium were found, along with Rs 56,500 in cash. The accused and seized items have been handed over to Zubza Police Station for further legal action.
