14th C Yanghori Memorial Cricket Tournament kicks off in Tuensang

The 14th late C Yanghori Memorial Cricket tournament organised by Tuensang District Cricket Association (TDCA) commenced on January 30 at Parade Ground in Tuensang town. The opening ceremony was graced by C Pongsu, President Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS), as the special guest. In his address, he congratulated TDCA for reaching the 14th year of the tournament and emphasised the need for collaboration between CWS and TDCA to achieve the goals and aspirations of the players.

Pongsu acknowledged the global celebration and societal importance of sports, stating that the sports scenario in Naga society is relatively young. He urged players to use their talents positively, emphasizing that sports stars are now revered, especially in a cricket-centric country like India. Pongsu praised TDCA's ongoing efforts to uplift and provide a platform for the game over the years, urging players and the public to appreciate the association's contributions.

Touching upon the issue of drug abuse in the town and the state, Pongsu highlighted sports as a suitable platform to raise awareness. He encouraged players to promote a healthy lifestyle and act as role models. Concluding, Pongsu called on TDCA to set ambitious targets to produce more players, enabling them to represent Tuensang district on a larger stage.

The programme was chaired by Mithun Das, Executive Member, TDCA, with the invocation pronounced by H Ronglikhum, Associate Youth Pastor, Sangtam Baptist Church, Tuensang. Wati Chang, Executive Secretary, TDCA, delivered the welcome address, and a special performance was presented by Chemliro Sangtam. The captains took the oath under the guidance of Tsapong, District Cricket Coach, followed by the declaration of the tournament by the special guest.

Five teams are participating in the tournament: Longkhim Town Cricket Club, Tuensang Royals, Inning Stars, Frontier Cricket Club, and Hawks Cricket Club. In the first match, the defending champions, Hawks Cricket Club, secured victory by 10 runs against Longkhim Town Cricket Club.
