Mokokchung, May 26 (MExN): The 14th Ongpangkong Watsü Mungdang (OWM) general conference got underway today here at Town Hall, Mokokchung on the theme ‘Merasen Ranglok’ (Towards a new step). Altogether more than 700 delegates from 25 Ongpangkong Watsu Mungdang units are attending the conference, which will conclude tomorrow, that is Friday, May 27.
The opening session of the programme was marked by introductory session, presentation of special song by the Mungdang Choir, exhortations and a folk song competition among the units.
The special guest of the evening, Assistant Director of Supplies, Arenla Longkumlar exhorted the audience on the role of the women in the society and challenged the delegates to focus on the theme ‘towards a new step’ and walk towards it with courage. Longkumlar also pointed out that both men and women are important in the society and it is the will of God for both men and women to live together in the society. She also exhorted the womenfolk to be more sincere in their duties as a mother and as a wife, since many families are broken when a woman does not give attention to her family, and many families or homes are made because of the women who take care of the needs of her husband and her children. She therefore urged the womenfolk to give importance to their families since the wellbeing of a society depends on the wellbeing of the families.
The president of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference and the Chuchuyimpang Village Council chairman also exhorted the audience. Later, a folk song competition was held in which 18 units took part. Meanwhile, as tribute to the Silver Jubilee celebration, the Ongpangkong Watsu Mungdang has constructed two ‘charity building cabins’ at the Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung to be used by patients admitted in the hospital. The formal programme of handing over the two cabins will be held at the IMDH on Friday, May 27, 2011 where the Director of Health & Family Welfare, Department, Dr Yangerla will inaugurate the building.
