16 Assam Rifles raids home of NSCN/GPRN leader

DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (MExN): The Angami Region NSCN/GPRN strongly condemned what it termed as the unwarranted act of 16th Assam Rifles in raiding the residence of Mr. K. K. Angami, Member Steering Committee, the highest policy making body of NSCN/GPRN, at Chedema village, Kohima early Thursday morning.
According to Ato, Secretary, Angami Region, NSCN/GPRN, the “decisive force of 16 Assam Rifles under the command of Col. Navin broke open the residence of Mr. K. K. Angami in his absence and looted the ammunition, cash and documentary records”. The press note stated that such an act was “totally a violation of the laid down Cease Fire Ground Rules and a direct challenge against the Angami Region of NSCN/GPRN as the Assam Rifles are staying in Angami jurisdiction”. The Assam Rifles should immediately return the seized ammunition along with cash and documentary records, the press note demanded.
The Angami Region NSCN/GPRN has asked the Assam Rifles to desist from involving in such provocative act, which will lead to hampering of the peaceful situation. “Our silence does not mean that we cannot retaliate but we want to adhere to the cease fire ground rules and don’t want to dilute the peaceful atmosphere”, the press note stated.
Moreover, it was informed that the two youth arrested by the Assam Rifles are innocent villagers and they are not a member of NSCN/GPRN. “Therefore, we demand that the youths identified as Mr. Ngopi a Theologian and Mr. Viphrekhotuo, farmer be released immediately without any harm”, it stated.
