Women folk participating in the walkathon during the culmination programme of 16 days of activism against Gender Based violence held at Longleng on 10th December 2024

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 10 (MExN): The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence concluded with impactful programs in both Tseminyu and Longleng, emphasizing the need for collective action to eliminate violence against women and uphold human rights.
In Tseminyu, the culmination program was held on December 10 at the Tseminyu Town Hall. Organized in collaboration with the Tseminyu administration, the event featured Martha R. Ritse, IAS, Secretary of Social Welfare, as the special guest. Ritse emphasized the urgency of addressing gender-based violence daily and highlighted the importance of equal opportunities for women in education, healthcare, and politics. Announcing the approval of a sub-center for Tseminyu, she called for public intervention to combat societal discrimination.
Keynote speaker W. Nginyeih Konyak, Chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, underlined the prevalence of violence within families and urged collective efforts to eliminate gender inequality. The program also included a flower show, arm wrestling, and baking competitions, with various speakers addressing initiatives under Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, and the Naya Chetna 3.0 campaign against gender-based violence.
Meanwhile, in Longleng, the District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, in collaboration with Phomla Hoichem, the apex women’s organization of the Phom community, led a series of activities under the theme "Toward Beijing+30: Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls." These included social media campaigns, poster initiatives, and advocacy drives across Sadar, Namsang, and Tamlu Blocks.
The week-long campaign culminated with a program at Lempong Traffic Point on December 10, followed by a walkathon to raise public awareness. Additional SP Longleng, Hiatwa Iralu, addressed the gathering, urging stakeholders to actively combat violence against women and emphasized the legal consequences for offenders.
Women Secretary PBCA, Anghbenla Phom, highlighted the unsafe conditions women face even within their homes, calling for collective resistance against such violence. Former ENWO President A. Shamthai encouraged solidarity and proactive efforts to foster women’s rights and societal change.
