16 Rail Coach Restaurants operational across NFR

Maligaon, October 5 (MExN): A total of 16 coach restaurants are operational across major stations of the Northeast Frontier Railway, providing rail passengers and the general public with a unique dining experience, informed an official release.

These restaurants have been strategically opened in vacant spaces in the circulating area, providing dining opportunities for both rail passengers and the general public, it said. The NFR has modified some of its discontinued non-operational coaches into these restaurants, and they have gained popularity among travelers and the public, it added.

In the Katihar Division, two coach restaurants each have been set up at New Jalpaiguri and Katihar stations, while there is one each at Darjeeling, Jogbani, Forbesganj, Siliguri, Purnia, and Malda Court stations. Under the Alipurduar Division, one coach restaurant each is operational at Kokrajhar, Raja Bhat Khawa, and New Coochbehar stations. There is also one each in Guwahati and Lumding stations, and another at New Tinsukia station.

The coach restaurants are designed with an aesthetic and beautifully heritage look, incorporating touches of local culture to attract travelers, according to the release from the CPRO, NFR.

Passersby and nearby residents also have access to the restaurants, which offer facilities to buy food, snacks, and beverages, it said.
These restaurants aim to cater to the needs of passengers and the public while generating non-fare revenue for the railways, it added.
