Mokokchung, July 19 (MExN): In collaboration with the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Mokokchung immunized 1,623 dogs against rabies. The six-day immunization drive covered all 16 wards within the municipality, informed a press release from Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir.
This collaborative initiative between the local veterinary department and the MMC started in 2015, according to the release. All dogs in Mokokchung Town are now required to be compulsorily immunized annually against rabies which can pose great public health risk in the event of an outbreak.
During the immunization drive, dogs were also registered by the respective local ward authorities for monitoring and to also ensure that dog owners maintain the pets as per legal requirements. The immunization team consisted of five veterinary doctors led by Dr. Tiachuba Jamir, V.S., Veterinary Hospital Mokokchung, 13 technical staffs and assistance from respective ward authorities.
