The 16th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2023 organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) got underway at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung with Colonel Rahul Gurung, Kirti Chakra, Commandant 12 Assam Rifles as the inaugural patron on September 19.

In his address, Colonel Rahul Gurung emphasised the crucial role that parents play in supporting their children's participation in sports and games. He highlighted that it's not just the players' involvement but also the support of their families that motivates them to excel and achieve their best through hard work and determination.

He also applauded the Late Imchaba’s family and MDVA for establishing such a prestigious trophy to encourage young talents in the state and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.

The organizing committee convener, Lakhi Longkumer in his welcome address said that Mokokchung is a vital hub for volleyball and urged people to continue nurturing their passion for the sport, ensuring that volleyball remains a vibrant part of the community.

The 16th edition of the tournament has 19 teams competing for trophy. 

The first match of the tournament witnessed the Chienino Brothers from Kiruphema, Kohima, showcasing their dominance as they defeated the Spartan Club from Lakhuni with a score of 25-16, 25-22.

A total of 44 matches will be played in the four-day tournament which is from September 19 to 22.
