In a major setback to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Mokokchung Region, 17 office bearers have announced their resignation from both primary and active membership of the party. They resigning members including, ten vice-presidents and seven secretaries made the announcement during a press conference at Majakong ward, Mokokchung on April 9.

The decision to this effect came after the NDPP General Convention which was held on November 2021 where the NDPP Mokokchung Region party reorganization was also to be made during the general convention. The election committee for Mokokchung Region from the NDPP central was deputed and a series of meeting were held where the consensus candidates were recommended and accordingly submitted for the Mokokchung Region, it was informed.

However, in the month of February 2022, the appointment for the new office bearers was issued by the Central office which was not in consonance with the list submitted by the election committee to the central office. Hence, the allegation made by the 17 resigning members was that the list was not as per the submission made by the election committee which was a backdoor appointment made against the constitution of the party.

Therefore, the 17 members said, “they have lost hope in the party and decided to resign from a party which has no respect and honour for its constitution.”
