Mon, August 23 (MExN): In a joint effort to bolster the enforcement of Section 6(b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, the Enforcement Squad under the National Tobacco Control Programme, in collaboration with the Mon Town Students Union, conducted an “unexpected” raid near educational institutions within Mon town on August 23.

During the operation, 17 individuals were found in violation of COTPA Section 6(b), which specifically prohibits the sale of tobacco products in the vicinity of educational institutions. “These offenders were promptly penalised in accordance with the relevant legal provisions,” stated a DIPR report.

The seized tobacco products found in possession of the defaulters were subsequently confiscated and destroyed at the premises of the Mon Town Police Station.

“This collaborative initiative serves as a testament to the dedication of the Enforcement Squad and the Mon Town Students Union in upholding tobacco control regulations and ensuring the well-being of the community, particularly the younger generation,” the report added.
