During the occasion, 17 schools under Peren district were declared Tobacco Free School and given certificates.
Apeuna Iheilung, President, Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation, graced the occasion as special guest. She exhorted the students and the community to stay away from the things that can harm our health and the environment.
Dr Aoyanger, DNO, NTCP, Peren speaking on the theme, emphasised that the top priority is to avoid combustible tobacco products, and the only way for an individual to completely eliminate tobacco-related harms is not to use them. He encouraged the students to inculcate healthy habits saying that we cannot change our past but we can change our present.
Dr Aoyanger said that consumption of tobacco is like consumption of poison. “Tobacco use has predominantly negative effects on human health and concern about health effects of tobacco has a long history,” he added.
