
1,96,913 farmers from Nagaland shortlisted
DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (MExN): The KVK Dimapur organized a Kisan sammelan (Farmers’ conference) and release programme of the 17th instalment of PM-Kisan scheme on June 18.
Medovilie Ladu, Joint Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, in his brief speech, highlighted the genesis of the scheme and applauded the Government of India for launching the scheme.
He revealed that a total of 1, 96,913 farmers from Nagaland have been shortlisted to receive the scheme benefit. Of these, 1, 52,605 farmers would be receiving the financial assistance through direct benefit transfer. He also urged those farmers who have not been shortlisted to update their KYC and APC details to avail the benefit in the later stage.
Dr Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun gave an overview of the agricultural scenario of the country as well as of Nagaland. He emphasised on the practice of integrated pest management and integrated nutrient management for sustainable farming. He requested the farmers to go for value addition, branding and marketing of the agricultural produce in the state.
Farmer representatives from Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Niuland districts, in their speeches, expressed gratitude for launching the scheme benefiting the farmers.
Earlier, Dr Phool Kumari, Sr Scientist cum Head KVK Dimapur, in her inaugural speech, welcomed the dignitaries and farmers and expressed gratitude for selecting KVK Dimapur from Nagaland to launch the programme.
Dr Homeswar Khalita, Head, ICAR Nagaland spoke about the significance and usefulness of PM Kisan. He maintained that agriculture is the backbone of the society which enables the farmer to achieve livelihood and nutritional security. The launching of the scheme is timely and will enable the farmers to mitigate debt trap, he added.
District Agricultural Officer, Chümoukedima, Bodevi Shuya also highlighted on the benefits of the scheme and urged the farmers to update their information for availing the benefits of PM Kisan.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Divya Sree, SMS (Agril Extension), KVK Dimapur. Later the farmers and the dignitaries attended the live telecast programme of the interactive session presided by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Altogether, 277 farmers from Chümoukedima, Niuland and Dimapur districts along with scientist, technical staff, officers and representatives from ICAR Nagaland Centre, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Department of Agriculture, KVK Dimapur, VFA Training Institute, SAS, Medziphema participated in the programme.
