At least 18 passengers were injured when an inter-state bus bound for Imphal, which was heading from Guwahati bearing registration No. MN-04A/9801, met with an accident at around 1:30 pm at a place near Makhan Khuman, about a kilometre away from Maram Bazaar in Senapati district. The incident reportedly occurred when the bus tried to give way for a car heading from the opposite direction at that place, reportedly due to narrowness of the road.
The ill- fated bus was reportedly boarded by 21 passengers from Guwahati. Reports said that 3 passengers reportedly got down in Nagaland while the remaining 18 on board reportedly sustained minor injuries due to the accident. Reports further said that majority of the inured passengers were discharged after they were given first aid treatment at 34 Assam Rifles, Maram Post. However, 7 of them who sustained serious injuries were later rushed to the Senapati District Hospital by Mao Police where the doctors at the Hospital stated the victims to be out of danger. 3 of them, all from Assam, have been identified as Santulal Ahmed, 21 years, Bisa Sheikh, aged about 40 years and Abdul Erari, aged about 30 years are kept at District Hospital, Senapati for observation this evening at the time of filing this report. All three of them are reportedly construction labourers working in Imphal. The bus is belongs to Siroy Kareng Tours & Travels and reportedly left Guwahati at around 4:30 pm on November 12.
Reports said that the Senapati district police, 34 Assam Rifles, an ambulance service and also ambulance from the drivers union reached the accident site as soon as they received the report and extended assistance by evacuating the injured passengers to 34 Assam Rifles, Maram Battalion military Hospital and District Hospital, Senapati town which is around 20 km away. A team of Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) also had reportedly visited them at the District Hospital later in the evening.
