Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): A four-day Women’s Volleyball Tournament organised under the banner of "SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development" got underway at B/78 NIDC in Dimapur on September 7.
The sporting event is being conducted by the 78th Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Dimapur.
Inaugurating the meet as chief guest, 173 Bn CRPF Commandant Ashok Kumar highlighted the pivotal role of women in nation-building and socioeconomic development.
He noted that women continue to make substantial contributions across diverse fields, including education, science, sports, public administration, and national security. Kumar added that sports serve as a vital medium to instill confidence, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and resilience among young women.
A total of 18 teams from various parts of Nagaland are competing in the tournament, which aims to drive youth engagement, foster community harmony, and provide female athletes with a competitive platform.
The opening encounter was played between Livingstone and Court Queen Club.
78 Bn CRPF Commandant Deven Bhosle, senior paramilitary officers, and SAI officials attended the opening ceremony.
Bhosle noted that the initiative underscores the paramilitary force's commitment to community outreach, women's empowerment, and strengthening civil-military relations through sports.
The tournament will conclude on September 10.
