• Forerunners beat Tangkhul SU to win 3rd place • Nagaland police to clash with Barak FC in finals today

  Our Correspondent Kohima | October 20 Forerunners, 4th NAP Thizama today overpowered Tangkhul Students’ Union, Manipur 6-5 in 3rd place play of the ongoing 18th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2017 here at the Kohima Local Ground.   Mathew Kezose netted the 1st, 4th, 9th and 11th goals for Forerunners.   Soiham contributed another goal for Forerunners in the 59th minute from a spot kick.   2nd goal was an own goal by Peimi Kasar(3) of Tangkhul Students’ Union in the 6th minute.   Franky Hungshi netted 3rd, 5th and 6th goals for Tangkhul Students’ Union in the 14th, 45th and 51st minute. Thotthan Mung and Ningam Vanyuinbou also connected a goal each to Tangkhul Students’ Union.   Yellow card was cautioned to Mathew Kezose of Forerunners.   Meanwhile, Barak FC Peren will clash with Nagaland Police (DGP team Red) in grand finale on October 21 at 1:00 PM.   K. Therie, president Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) will be the guest of honour at the valedictory function.   Apart from cash prize to champions (Rs. 1,60,000), runners-up (Rs. 1 lakh), 3rd (Rs. 50,000) and 4th place (Rs. 30,000), there will also be cash prizes of Rs. 10,000 each for four outstanding players, Rs. 10,000 as fair play award and a scooter for player of the tournament.   The tournament is organized in honour and in remembrance of late Kekuojalie Sachii of Kohima Village and late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema village, who were victims to the indiscriminate firings of the Armed Police from Alichen, when the students’ fraternity, on March 20, 1986 were on a peaceful duty call of the Naga Students’ Federation to register Nagas’ resentment against the state government’s decision to the extension of Disturbed Area Belt from 5 km – 20 km along the Indo-Myanmar border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres into the state of Nagaland.     International referee to officiate grand finale A set of 4 Referees from outside the state have been called in to conduct in the grand Finale of the Tourney. The set will be led by Thumli Joyshing Mosang, a Monsang Naga who holds the distinction of being the only international Naga referee
